What is Line Betting?

The traditional form of betting in Australia has always been head to head, but this form of betting is not really suited to team sports such as football and basketball since the number of one-sided matches makes betting on them dull and boring. But with line betting you bet on the winning margin rather than on will win outright.

As you can imagine Line Betting makes betting on team sports a great deal more complex and so exciting, since you can never be sure what the margin of any win will be. Line betting is said to be especially profitable when it comes to afl betting. Winning at line betting is based on the accuracy of the bet rather just on who will win and who will lose; that seems easy – and boring - by comparison. People like to bet in a way that makes them think carefully and make decisions and judgements. Then when they win they feel like they know more than everyone else. Thus there is less luck and more brain power involved in line betting.

That does not mean to say that the people who like line betting will make any more than if they bet head to head; it just makes the whole thing a little more exciting. So if you are looking to make money from betting, remember that you should only wager as much as you can afford to lose. It is the same with speculating on shares. You know that there is always risk of loss so it will pay to take care and never use money you don’t have.
