What are AFL Betting Regulations?

Not everyone is allowed to indulge in afl betting. For a start, the law prohibits anyone under the age of eighteen from gambling. When afl betting is advertised on television during those times when children are watching, it makes gambling seem normal to them. This predisposes them to become gamblers when they grow up – and they often become addicted to gambling, not only afl betting.

Minors are protected from the advertising on gambling that is in clubs and pubs; it hardly seems right then that they can see all they want to about it on a television in their own homes. Perhaps wise parents need to limit the amount of time their children spend watching afl. The game can always be recorded and watched at a later time.

In addition, players, coaches and referees are not allowed to indulge in afl betting. Even if a player or coach does afl betting for someone else, they will be in trouble if they are found out. If these people were allowed to do any afl betting it could easily alter the outcome of the game, as they would want their bet to be one that won and so could easily do the wrong thing during the game.

So afl betting regulations prohibit not only those who are under-age, but anyone who has close connections with the game such as players and coaches from placing bets whether in their own names or for anyone else. Hopefully this will protect games from match fixing to some extent.
